I was digging around for some info today which I found, but came across these sites.
How many UK ‘citizens’ know who their MP, local Councillor or MEP are? Well here is a site www.writetothem.com that helps you with that quest!
Simply type your postcode into the box and this single site will serve up a complete list of Councillors, MEPs and the MP for your district.
Dig a bit deeper at www.writetothem.com and you find that the site has the ability to tell you how well your (and others) MP has performed in replying to their constituents via email, some of it makes fascinating reading.
It also has links showing where each of the Westminster MPs stands on various current issues of the day, i.e. foundation hospitals, student top-up fees, Labour’s anti-terrorism laws, the Iraq war, ID cards etc., voting record, recent speeches made in parliament.
I learnt a lot more about my MP, ‘John Redwood’ in five minutes on this site, than I have in the past with any amount of local Conservative party promotion. However that maybe my fault for not digging further.
This is a fantastic site full of ‘eye’ opening information and if I have missed any news of its existence previously (it’s just celebrated its 1st birthday), then I should pay more attention. If on the other hand it has not been much publicised in the past, then why not!
Get your postcode into the box and start browsing.
Well done to the people www.mysociety.org that put this site together, they have also created a number of other ‘social’ websites. Take a look, its what the web is for.
