A story all too familiar as we continue to see ongoing disasters around the globe and aid destined for the suffering victims is either stolen on route, kept in stores instead of being distributed to the needy or even passed on to people who don’t even need the aid.
Another example of poor disaster relief in the third-world? No, it’s what happened to aid destined for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, USA!
In the country supposed to be at the fore front of communications, it seems that even USA based aid organisations don’t know what going on in their own backyard.
With some aid having been stored for over a year, much of it has now been passed on to various Mississippi government administration offices instead of the intended victims. You can find more details this story here.
It’s strange that the USA government can organise the rest of the world, but can’t even look after its own needy citizens. Funny, I thought that there was oil in Louisiana!
