Disaster aid went missing on route to victims.

A story all too familiar as we continue to see ongoing disasters around the globe and aid destined for the suffering victims is either stolen on route, kept in stores instead of being distributed to the needy or even passed on to people who don’t even need the aid.

Another example of poor disaster relief in the third-world? No, it’s what happened to aid destined for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, USA!

In the country supposed to be at the fore front of communications, it seems that even USA based aid organisations don’t know what going on in their own backyard.

femaclosed With some aid having been stored for over a year, much of it has now been passed on to various Mississippi government administration offices instead of the intended victims. You can find more details this story here.

It’s strange that the USA government can organise the rest of the world, but can’t even look after its own needy citizens. Funny, I thought that there was oil in Louisiana!

Russia a threat to the UK?

Can this really be true? According to this Times Online story, it is the third biggest threat to the UK after Al-Qaeda and Iran. The Al-Qaeda threat I suppose is clear – considering how we were jumped into the Bush bed by Blair and have been tarred with the same brush.

The Iran threat I am not sure about apart from the financing that they are providing to Al-Qaeda, however if we (the UK) assist the USA and Israel with an attack on the Iranian Nuclear plants, then I hate to think what might happen.

But Russia a big threat to the UK! What would Russia want with the UK? Are they afraid that we might be getting ready to buy too much of their gas supplies? Might we be buying to much Russian Vodka for our Friday night boozing?

It seems a strange story to run, but I suppose there’s no smoke without fire, so we will have to watch out for KGB spies tracking us on a daily basis!

9/11/7 – The truth at last?

Well maybe, if the latest news reports [2], [3] are to be believed.

I’ve never fully subscribed to all the conspiracy theories that surfaced after that devastating incident. Some of the theories seemed too far-fetched to be fully believed, but some did seem to have some interesting aspects.

But one thing I would say about building 7 to my lay eyes, I think that this building was deliberately demolished to hide something.

There are to many coincidence with the way that building came down and other controlled building demolitions for it to be anything else. Looking on any of the video sharing web sites there is plenty of evidence (I found over 30 video clips) to support this, the best one was this one…

Maybe we will never find out the real truth about the whole incident, could the CIA/USA government have engineered the whole thing? It’s something that will never be fully understood, but as far as building 7 is concerned, it was demolished for some reason and no amount of special USA backed reports will convince me otherwise.

Mugabe rule ‘not legitimate’ – UK

So says our baby-faced Foreign Secretary. Nice words, but what are you really going to do about it?

I am sure that if there was oil in Zimbabwe, the British and USA governments would have some ‘regime change to be over there right away.

But there again I may be being somewhat cynical in my view, after all, the Iraq was only about getting rid of a murdering dictator!

A view too far!

Just how far are we in the UK going to allow our ongoing surveillance society to go?

With Google now starting to map the UK for their Google Street View application it seems that at least the UK Information Commissioner will stick up for the ordinary citizen, that is if the complaints are made!

streetviewcar Although Google says that it will use ‘face blocking’ technology to blur faces, the technology is still untested.

So beware if you see a strange looking car in your area, you could end up in a Google Street Map view with some explaining to do!

Mandela is a terrorist, well until last week!

I was amazed to hear last week that Nelson Mandela was still on the USA terrorist stop list!

It seems very strange to me that even after all this time that even though Mandela has been recognised as one of the main people who helped end Apartheid that he would be treated this way by the ‘beacon’ of western freedom.

Clearly from this ongoing blacklisting, the USA has shown that they fully supported the Apartheid regime during Mandela’s time in prison instead of supporting him as a ‘Freedom Freighter’.

It still goes to show that one persons freedom fighter is another persons terrorists! I wonder if the USA have An Sang Su Chi on their terrorist stop list? I bet they don’t have Robert Mugabe on it?

The Internet still excites.

I was looking through some links in a tender document that I received on Friday and as you do when presented with one link, you can’t help following it to other links that lead you off into other fascinating sites.

Of course you have to be careful that you don’t spend too much time doing this otherwise the original work gets left behind and before you know it two (or even more) hours have disappeared!

So what did I find?

I’ve seen some of these before, but its still worth mentioning them again.

At last some sense!

Finally; someone associated with government is talking about the over use of surveillance in this country!

cctvcamera2 Sir Simon Milton who is the chairman of the Local Government Association, is taking local councils to task over their enthusiasm of the use of surveillance techniques for trivial reasons.

Many people do not realise the powers that have been given to the many UK agencies under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA).

In a  detailed previous post I described how after a discussion with the Home Office I finally received a list of those agencies, here’s a link to the PDF. When I first showed the list to many of my friends, they were horrified at just what this government was doing. In fact if you have read this post, then it is probably likely that this has also been noted by the Government snoops.

Is this the start of a backlash against the UK’s onward march towards a truly Orwellian society? I really hope so, but unfortunately it’s going to take more than just Sir Simon Milton. Perhaps some of the people commenting on the BBC’s ‘Have Your Say’ page might release what’s been going in the name of their ‘security’ and start to do something about.

What a tragedy for Zimbabwe.

Copyright - Morland, Daily Telegraph I think this carton from Morland of the Daily Telegraph sums up the complete tragedy for Zimbabwe.

Watching some of the press coverage over the weekend, it makes we wonder why someone who seemingly fought against the previous regime in South Africa wants to give Mugabe so much support.

Then of course we have Mr. Miliband pontificating on the situation. It’s funny what few years make to how this Labour government seems to deal with dictators, despots and tyrants. Once upon a time we would have joined forces with that other great supporter of human rights – the USA to solve the problem, but of course I suppose the difference this time is that there is no oil laying under the soil of Zimbabwe!

I may be being a bit cynical here, but can you blame me?
