Voter ID was invented by the Conservatives as part of their drive to disenfranchise as many parts of society that they could think of for a problem that really did not exisit. But that’s for another post.
What is essential is that you get some form of Voter ID as soon as possible. There is a list of what is considered to be valid Voter ID which can be found on the Electoral Commission site. Valid Voter ID’s include your UK Passport, your UK Driving License, your London Oyster Photocard to name a few.
A full list of valid Voter ID forms can be found on the Electoral Commission site.
If you don’t have any of the listed items, you can apply online for a Voter Authority Certificate, but you must also Register to Vote online (deadline is 11:59pm on 18 June 2024) before you can obtain a Voter Authority Certificate (deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June).
Sadly, it seems that Student ID cards are still not able to be used as an Election Voter ID’s; nor are the recently issued Veterans ID card despite a number of Conservative politicians saying it would; there’s a surprise!
