"Yo Blair! What’s up"

This telling overheard conversation opener between Bush and Blair must be a total embarrassment to all concerned on both sides of the political Atlantic bridge. To hear Bush talk in this juvenile way, when many parts of the world are starting to fall apart, leaves me with a feeling of uncertainty for our future if this is the supposed leader of the free world!

If this is the sort of conversation level he (Bush) uses when talking with all other politicians (“this trade thingy” is another example) then I now understand why he won’t talk with Korea and Iran, he can’t!

What concerns me even more are the replies that Blair gave to Bush during the conversation. For those who remember it, I honestly though I was watching an episode of ‘Spitting Image’, except instead of Thatcher/Reagan or Thatcher/Cabinet we have the role reversal of Bush/Blair. If any one event that will finally convince people that he is the poodle to Bush’s Top Cat then this surely must be it.

I feel embarrassed, as must many UK citizens that we have a leader that seems akin to a panting dog jumping up at his masters side waiting for a tidbit from the table or another round of throw/fetch!

I’m sure that this episode will cause serious concern to all in the UK, confirming that on the international front, we (the UK) appear to be weaker today, than we have ever been. I have always believed that we should have a special relationship with the USA, we have many common aims.

However, if this is where we are with our special relationship, then I think it’s high time that we abandon it and move significantly towards a closer integration with Europe. Controversial? Not half a much as I think this G8 ‘overheard conversation’ will prove to be in the coming days!

See the front page of The Independent as to how they have covered the story.

  1. It’s simply gobsmackingly astonishing, really. I’m not American, I’m Canadian .. but I am embarrassed for us all. The real pity is that Phony Blair COULD BE a real world leader in all this turmoil if he sat down, reflected, and decided that the grown-ups should take back control of the world … the pity is that he doesn’t.Please read the comments here, and note that at least 200 or so Americans are totally embarrassed and realize that things are out of control and that a spoiled adolescent is pretending to lead the world and that everybody, for some reason, is scared to call him or the USA on it.http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/07/18/presidential-groping/Jon Husband of Qumana
