Carol Thatcher is Out

According to news reports tonight, Carol Thatcher has been banned by the BBC.

CarolThatcher Coming on the back of the Jonathan Ross suspension for bad behaviour, Thatcher is accused of using a racist comment when describing the hairstyle of a Tennis player. Perhaps she should have chosen her words more carefully perhaps using Afro as a more acceptable alternative.

I would not use the word that she used myself as it is an offensive comment, however what is strange is that the comment was made in an unrecorded private conversation with One Show host Adrian Childes and Comedienne Jo Brand in one of the BBC Green Rooms after one of last weeks nightly shows, unlike the Jonathan Ross comments, which was broadcast to some six million listeners!

It now appears that Adrian Childes and/or Jo Brand reported her to BBC managers and it has resulted in her being banned from the BBC!

Yes, Thatcher should not have made the comments (and has since apologised); however, I bet anyone that works with either Childes or Brand will now be watching their P’s and Q’s.

It’s very dangerous when people who themselves are not above making mistakes, suddenly adopt a higher moral tone. I think both of them will come to regret how they ran and told tales to teacher!

  1. Carol Thatcher was having a private conversation when mentioning the word golliwog,so what! It is only because of the so called PC brigade that we find ourselves having to be careful what we say. When I was young in the 40,s & 50,s a golliwog was not a racist word he was a picture on a jam pot.In the 60,s & 70,s I worked with asians, west Indians and there was constant banter, they would call me honkey,I would call them sambo,no offence was ever taken. We now find ouselves in a situation which is out of control. All nations could take offence e.g Pom,Limey Honkey,I don,t take offence,Paddy for Irish Taffy for the Welsh,Polski for the Poles etc. Jade Goody used the word poppadom, can I go into an Indian restaraunt and be accused of racism if I order a poppadom, the P.C brigade have made it racist. When will this stupidity end,we can all take offece at anything anyone says to us.In what was once a democratic country people are being silenced and are not allowed to express themselves in case it offends or is seen as racist.I say get a life.I now live in Spain,a great country & great people, and yes there are some of them who are very racist, but am I bothered, no.Good on you Carol Thatcher stand by your principles & don't let the few biggoted people get you down I am 100 percent behing you.and by the way I do have very dear Asian & West ndian fiends who do agree with me.

  2. Seems that there is more to this story that was first thought, it now seems that many more people were present than was first reported, so I suppose it really wasn’t in a ‘private’ conversation. Thatcher does not seem to me to be the sort of person that would not apologise where one was due. I watched the BBC today where Jay Hunt was very forthright about the BBC’s handling of the issue. However as it now turns out that Thatcher will continue working on other programs for the BBC, one has to assume that this has been a about a clash of personalities with others on the one show, brought to a head over this comment.
